This is an illo I submitted for last week's Picture Bookies Showcase. I developed the scene from a loose character sketch I had done previously.

Another sketch that began as a scribble. In this case I wanted to experiment with a sumi brush and just started playing with a few strokes. I always begin every sketch with scribbles all over my page, its how I loosen up. Anyway, a few seconds into this a character began to develop.

The following illo is the same sketch, but just a little more cleaned up.

Fooling around with my small (4 x 5) tablet verse my larger (6 x 8) tablet sketched in Painter. It works just as well (both Intuos 3). I like the bigger tablet better. It provides me with a greater range of physical (hand and wrist) motion, expression and sense of freedom when illustrating. Wish I could have gone with the 9 x 12, 12 x 12 though. Ah, maybe some day.

Scene from A Spell On Mother Bear, a children's story book I'm working on. This is also my submission for this week's Picture Bookies Showcase.
