A Small Thought, by Vivian Hadding

It would be simple
Were we all trees
We'd never speak
And misinterpret our thoughts

The wind would pass through us
Releasing our hearts
Deep echos would ring
Voices clear and profound

Faith would feed us
Truth and light
And a stillness would settle
And quiet our night

Rain would wash
The stain and the blood
Salt from our tears
Agony's past

We could dance freely
Waves to and fro
Dipping and rising
We might even touch

No guilt and no shame
Nor anger nor blame
If we'd be trees be so simple
Were we lovers and friends
